With India\u2019s next T20I assignment set to be a tour of Zimbabwe in July 2026, the teenager\u2019s performances are already sparking growing speculation about a possible call-up.<\/p>\n

Just days after celebrating his 15th birthday, the Rajasthan Royals youngster produced a statement knock against Chennai Super Kings, smashing a rapid 15-ball half-century. The innings underlined not only his fearless batting style but also why he has been viewed as one of the most exciting emerging prospects in Indian cricket. Importantly, it was not a solitary flash of brilliance\u2014he had previously posted an IPL century off 35 balls last season, reinforcing that his impact is building across different stages, not just one standout moment.<\/p>\n

Setting out to chase a modest total of 128, Sooryavanshi made sure the pursuit never felt controlled or tentative. He took full advantage of the powerplay, striking at pace and speed, reaching 52 off 17 deliveries in a spell that blended timing with clean hitting. With his explosive batting and increasing confidence, Sooryavanshi fits the kind of profile that teams often look to assess on tours like this.<\/p>\n

Experts divided as calls grow to fast-track Sooryavanshi<\/h2>\n

Unsurprisingly, the conversation around whether Sooryavanshi should be accelerated into India\u2019s T20 plans is becoming louder. Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal suggested that a national debut may be only a matter of time, pointing to how quickly the youngster has accumulated milestones.<\/p>\n

Akmal said, \u201cIn just 8 IPL games, he has been piling records\u2014he already has a hundred. I think in the coming international games for India, he will get a chance after IPL. He will become a young player of the T20 international team. He has proved himself in every place. If he continues to perform, he will definitely get the chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also stressed the maturity Sooryavanshi has shown, adding, \u201cHis presence of mind, game awareness, the way he plays\u2014he has a counter to everything at such a young age. This is remarkable\u2026 We are discussing his performance more because it was a low-scoring match of 128. But his performance is visible because he scored 50 runs on 15 balls.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif, who previously urged caution about the hype, has now adjusted his view. \u201cLast season I thought Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was getting hyped way too early. An old-school cricketer, I believe there should be no haste in fast-tracking young players. But a year later, I think he is ready to graduate to the next level,\u201d Kaif wrote. He also praised the youngster\u2019s ability to \u201centertain and play match-winning knocks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla echoed a similar willingness to speed up the progression. \u201cIf he plays like that, I would love to see him fast-tracked,\u201d Chawla said. Ambati Rayudu, another former India batter, described Sooryavanshi as \u201ca cut above a lot of youngsters.\u201d However, Rayudu offered a reminder that entry into India\u2019s settled and successful T20 XI is never straightforward. \u201cDon\u2019t forget, our Indian team is a world champion team. It\u2019s won the T20 World Cup. So to replace somebody in that side is not easy. To me, there are a few players ahead of him at the moment, because you tend to pick and build your teams ahead of the next ICC competition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While many continue to celebrate the teenager\u2019s impact, some voices have urged against rushing his development. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin called for restraint, arguing that expectations should be carefully managed around a 15-year-old prodigy.<\/p>\n

Ashwin said, \u201cDon\u2019t give him such a target. He is not even a guy, he is a kid.\u201d He added the case for patience: \u201cIf Sooryavanshi plays till 40, he has two and a half decades left in cricket. Leave him alone, he will come on his own when the time is right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even with that caution, Ashwin made it clear he believes the youngster\u2019s ability is unquestionable. \u201cHe is too good to not play for India. He will play anyway eventually. When will he play? For that, we might have to wait a bit. Why are we always in a hurry,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

As the debate intensifies, selectors face a delicate challenge: whether to fast-track a potential generational talent or allow time for him to mature in the right environment. With the Zimbabwe tour approaching, the discussion around Sooryavanshi\u2019s next step is only expected to grow louder.<\/p>\n
