Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has opened up on why he opted for the Pakistan Super League instead of the Indian Premier League this year, explaining that schedule overlap and the search for consistent playing time played a major role in his planning. With the IPL auction and squad spots often decided early, some international players who are unsure of landing a contract have started looking toward the PSL, where regular match involvement can be more attainable.<\/p>\n

Moeen\u2019s choice also follows his own recent experience in the IPL, where his role has narrowed over the last couple of seasons. Rather than waiting for auction outcomes, he took a more straightforward path by agreeing to represent Karachi Kings for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Why Moeen chose the PSL and Karachi Kings<\/h2>\n

  1. He is now 38 and wants to keep playing at a high level while extending his career for as long as possible.<\/li>\n
  2. Karachi Kings was a key factor in his decision to make the move, with Moeen highlighting the tournament\u2019s shorter format as better suited to his family routine.<\/li>\n
  3. He pointed to the tough nature of securing enough opportunities in the IPL, noting that his selection chances have been limited at the later stages of his career.<\/li>\n
  4. He said he is aiming for more time in the middle, especially because he feels he is performing well as his career progresses into its final phase.<\/li>\n
  5. While he stressed that no place is ever fully secure, he believes enjoying his cricket and embracing new experiences is central to his approach right now.<\/li>\n
  6. He added that he has long wanted to experience the PSL, but that it clashes with the IPL\u2014an overlap that shaped his current decision.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Speaking on the ARY Podcast, Moeen explained his motivation in his own words: \u201cThere\u2019s a few reasons. I\u2019m 38 now, and I still want to play, do well, and extend my career as much as possible. Karachi was a big factor in my decision to come here. It\u2019s a shorter competition, which works better for my family and me.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He also addressed his recent IPL involvement, saying he wants to be on the field more often and to bat regularly rather than watch matches from the sidelines. Moeen said that last season he appeared in only about half the games and got to bat just twice, which he felt was not enough for where he wants to be at this stage.<\/p>\n

    \u201cLast year in the IPL, I played only half the games and barely got to bat, just twice. At this stage, I want to be out there; I want to bat. I feel like I\u2019m playing good cricket towards the back end of my career, and I just want to keep going,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

    Concluding his comments, Moeen underlined that selection is never guaranteed anywhere, but he wants to focus on enjoying the sport as much as he can. He reiterated his interest in the PSL and acknowledged the challenge posed by the two leagues overlapping in the calendar.<\/p>\n

    \u201cYou\u2019re never guaranteed a place anywhere, even here, but I just want to enjoy my cricket as much as I can. I\u2019ve always wanted to experience the PSL, but unfortunately, it slightly clashes with the IPL,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

    Moeen\u2019s last IPL stint came with Kolkata Knight Riders, where he featured last season. He scored 5 runs across 6 matches and took 6 wickets, but in the end he lost his spot in the playing XI.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
