Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are enduring a bleak stretch in the IPL 2026, with the franchise still searching for its first victory. After six matches, they have managed only one washed-out game and have lost the other five. With results not going their way, the scrutiny on the squad\u2014especially captain Ajinkya Rahane\u2014has intensified. In a press conference after KKR\u2019s match against the Gujarat Titans on Friday, Rahane even faced a surprising moment of appreciation when a reporter congratulated him for the hard work he has been putting in to help steer the turnaround.<\/p>\n

When asked to reflect on the recent run of outcomes and what the team is taking from these games, Rahane stressed that learning from mistakes remains the central focus. He underlined that whether the side wins or loses, they aim to adjust and respond in the next match\u2014treating every day, both training and matchplay, as an opportunity to improve.<\/p>\n
Rahane explained that the T20 format often swings on crucial phases, where one productive period\u2014such as a single over\u2014can completely alter the contest. He said that from the most recent game and the five that preceded it, the lesson has been about delivering in the key moments as a single unit, both with bat and ball.<\/p>\n
Rahane also pinned part of the team\u2019s winless beginning on an inexperienced pace group. He acknowledged the efforts of Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and Anukul Roy, while making it clear that the lack of wickets during the powerplay has made KKR\u2019s task significantly harder.<\/p>\n
Against the Gujarat Titans, Rahane highlighted that the opening bowlers faced an additional challenge due to inexperience, especially when up against Shubman Gill and B. Sai Sudharsan\u2014players he described as strong against spin. He also spoke about Narine\u2019s contribution, noting that Narine managed a good over, while acknowledging that it was difficult for Anukul in that phase.<\/p>\n
Rahane further revealed that KKR were unable to use Cameron Green effectively. The IPL 2026 signing, valued at Rs 25.20 crore, was reportedly struggling with cramps during the match, forcing KKR to adjust their plans during the first six overs.<\/p>\n
Despite Gujarat Titans\u2019 strong start, Rahane expressed satisfaction with how KKR managed to pull the game back after the seventh or eighth over.
