Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the 2nd ODI against New Zealand, Shoriful pointed to a 16-month gap from the 50-over format, yet suggested that focusing on fundamentals helped him make an immediate impact when he finally got his chance.<\/p>\n<h2>Gap from ODIs and the mindset to stay ready<\/h2>\n<p>Shoriful explained that he last played an ODI against the West Indies and also spent time out of the national set-up during the Champions Trophy. While acknowledging the time away, he emphasised mental discipline and preparation rather than dwelling on absence. He said he continues to stick to the basics so that he can be prepared whenever selection comes. He also described an internal drive to keep improving, adding that when opportunities arrive, he aims to make the most of them.<\/p>\n<h2>How Shoriful\u2019s opening-game recall changed the series<\/h2>\n<p>The pacer\u2019s readiness was tested and rewarded in the first ODI of the series. He entered the contest as a late inclusion after Mustafizur Rahman suffered an injury. Shoriful was not part of the playing XI until the morning of the match, and his inclusion only became clear after Mustafizur was ruled out following discomfort in his right knee during the warm-up before the toss.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shoriful was added to the XI late, after Mustafizur Rahman was ruled out due to right-knee discomfort during warm-ups.<\/li>\n<li>Mustafizur\u2019s injury came after the left-arm fast bowler was already ruled out ahead of the toss, making Shoriful\u2019s role a last-minute call.<\/li>\n<li>Shoriful made the most of his chance with figures of 2\/27.<\/li>\n<li>He was involved in a key moment early on when Saif Hassan dropped a routine slip catch, giving Nick Kelly a lifeline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shoriful also reflected on how quickly he adapted to the match conditions. He noted that the surface did not provide much bounce or pace, with the ball sometimes skidding low. Over the early phase, he started with a wide and then produced 27 dot balls from his first 30 deliveries.
