The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is holding talks with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation about the possibility of constructing a brand-new cricket ground in Jeddah. The proposal has already been cleared by the PCB Governing Board, paving the way for discussions to move forward.<\/p>\n

In the early phase of negotiations, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is understood to be engaging with Saudi cricket officials. A formal expression of interest for the project has reportedly been submitted, signalling the PCB\u2019s intent to explore the idea in detail.<\/p>\n

One point stressed in the discussions is that the PCB\u2019s goal goes beyond building infrastructure. The board is reportedly keen to help grow the sport in Saudi Arabia and is also assessing whether Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches could be staged there in future. However, a final agreement has not yet been put to paper.<\/p>\n

Early-stage planning and Saudi involvement<\/h2>\n

  1. Discussions are currently centred on finding a suitable site in Jeddah for the proposed stadium.<\/li>\n
  2. The planned venue is expected to come with modern matchday infrastructure, including floodlights and seating designed for high-level international and franchise events.<\/li>\n
  3. The ground could potentially become a future host for PSL fixtures if the project progresses.<\/li>\n
  4. The initiative is believed to have come from the Saudi side, reflecting the kingdom\u2019s increasing drive to deepen its footprint in global cricket.<\/li>\n
  5. Saudi Arabia has also been exploring the idea of launching its own T20 competition as part of a wider sports development push.<\/li>\n
  6. While talks remain at an early stage, the PCB has indicated openness to collaboration, citing the close ties between the two countries.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Strategic reasons: expatriate community and rival hubs<\/h2>\n

    The PCB\u2019s push for Saudi Arabia is also linked to the region\u2019s large South Asian expatriate population, including a substantial Pakistani community that could support cricket crowds and event engagement.<\/p>\n

    At present, the United Arab Emirates continues to act as the main gateway for international cricket in the Middle East. It has hosted major tournaments such as the Asia Cup and ICC events, and it has also served as the venue base for the Indian Premier League.<\/p>\n

    The UAE is home to three established international grounds in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. It also functioned as Pakistan\u2019s home base for international cricket from 2010 to 2019, and it hosted the early editions of the PSL when matches in Pakistan were not feasible due to security concerns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
