Sunrisers Hyderabad will enter their IPL 2026 contest against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium with a major boost, after Pat Cummins confirmed that Saturday will mark his return as captain and his first appearance of the season. The 2016 champions had been waiting for the Australian to join the playing group, and his clearance has set up an immediate leadership shift for the franchise.<\/p>\n

Cummins\u2019 return and the lead-up<\/h2>\n

  1. Cummins arrived in India before the season began, but he did not feature in SRH\u2019s opening match.<\/li>\n
  2. After SRH\u2019s thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders on April 2, the 32-year-old flew back to Australia for a scan on his back.<\/li>\n
  3. Following the fitness check completed on Friday, Cummins confirmed he is fit to play and will take the field against Rajasthan Royals.<\/li>\n
  4. In a post on his official Instagram account, Cummins described the moment as \u201ca long time coming,\u201d adding that he was eager to get back involved for the match on Saturday.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The fast-bowling captain has been sidelined since the Ashes series against England at home, and he also missed the recently concluded ICC Men\u2019s T20 World Cup 2026, where Australia were eliminated at the group stage for the first time.<\/p>\n

    How SRH have coped in his absence<\/h2>\n

    Without Cummins, SRH tinkered with their pace options and found encouragement in their new-ball plans. Debutant fast bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain delivered standout performances, with both claiming four-wicket hauls against Rajasthan Royals during a match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium earlier this week.<\/p>\n

    With Cummins set to take over, the captaincy role will pass on from stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan. Under Kishan\u2019s leadership, Sunrisers Hyderabad won four of their seven matches so far. The team currently sits fourth in the points table with eight points and a net run rate of 0.820.<\/p>\n

    Possible XI changes and overseas mix<\/h2>\n

    As Cummins comes into the side, he is expected to replace fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka, who has managed just one appearance in IPL 2026 to date. In that outing, Madhushanka conceded 36 runs while taking a single wicket across four overs.<\/p>\n
