Their upcoming opponents, Delhi Capitals, sit at the other end of the form spectrum.<\/p>\n<h3>At a glance<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Punjab Kings are unbeaten in their last six IPL matches: five wins and one no result.<\/li>\n<li>Two more PBKS wins would match their best run from 13 years ago.<\/li>\n<li>Delhi Capitals have three wins from six played and three defeats in their last four, placing them sixth.<\/li>\n<li>DC\u2019s only win in the last two weeks came with a penultimate-ball finish versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru.<\/li>\n<li>In the next five games for DC, four are scheduled at home; the only away match is against Rajasthan Royals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Delhi Capitals\u2019 recent stretch has been uneven. After winning three of their six matches, they have slid in the last four by losing three. The one bright moment over the past couple of weeks was a narrow, late finish against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Bengaluru, where the deciding moment arrived on the penultimate ball.<\/p>\n<p>The next fortnight is pivotal for DC, with four of their upcoming five matches at home. Their only trip away from familiar conditions in that period is a clash against Rajasthan Royals. A strong response at home could swing momentum quickly; a slip could make the season feel increasingly difficult.<\/p>\n<h3>Home record and the chase problem<\/h3>\n<p>So far at home, Delhi\u2019s results have been a mixed bag. They beat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets in one game, but in the other they fell short by 1 run against Gujarat Titans. That Titans match was tightly contested and ultimately settled at the final ball.<\/p>\n<p>One theme running through DC\u2019s campaign is difficulty in chasing large totals. They have not yet managed to surpass a 200-plus target this season, and in 8 of their last 10 chase attempts since 2024, they have fallen short. On the eve of the day game against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Tristan Stubbs pointed to how the innings have not always been smooth\u2014but still emphasised that the franchise has frequently posted big numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Stubbs said the situation can feel worse because they have been chasing in nearly every game. He noted that in a recent match they lost three wickets in a single over and did not bat particularly well, yet still reached the 190s. He added that even in defeats, the team has been scoring around 190, and that small turning points across matches have played a role.<\/p>\n<h3>Batting shuffle and bowling numbers<\/h3>\n<p>Delhi\u2019s batting has also lacked consistent clarity about the best combination. Pathum Nissanka has flashed in brief bursts at the top, producing three scores of 40-plus, but his wider pattern has included 1, 1, and 8 as well\u2014off-setting contributions that complicate the chase or set-up phase for the rest of the innings.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 3 position has been the most experimental. Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, and Karun Nair have all been given opportunities, with the overall output reading 88 runs at an average of 14.66. Rana\u2019s form was poor enough for him to be dropped before he bounced back with a 57 against SRH in the most recent match.<\/p>\n<p>Sameer Rizvi also began brightly, delivering two consecutive Player of the Match performances, but the momentum has faded. In his last four outings, his returns have been 0, 6, 2, and 41, leaving DC without a steady middle-order anchor.<\/p>\n<p>Uncertainty is not limited to the batting; it is visible in the bowling unit as well. With Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, and Mukesh Kumar absent, Lungi Ngidi and Mukesh Kumar have carried the seam-bowling load\u2014yet the spinners have not consistently delivered breakthroughs. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have combined for 11 wickets this season, but they have conceded 341 runs in 38 overs at an economy rate close to 9 an over.<\/p>\n<p>In their match where SRH posted 242, Delhi bowled only two overs each in that specific spell pattern, and Nitish Rana completed his allotment of overs. With the key stretch ahead and Starc set to return next week, the contest takes on extra significance for DC as they look to lock in their best XI and the right balance.<\/p>\n<p>For Punjab Kings, this matchup offers a chance to keep building momentum and extend their unbeaten momentum.
