Chennai Super Kings\u2019 struggles continued as Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced a ruthless performance at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday night, handing the five-time champions a 43-run defeat. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK were never able to get close once Bengaluru built a 250-run platform, but what stood out was the lack of resistance from the chasing side. Despite a brief recovery in the lower order, CSK fell short of the target by more than 40 runs, and Gaikwad\u2019s post-match reflections suggested he felt his team had underperformed in more ways than one.<\/p>\n

Gaikwad, however, pointed the finger inwards. For the third straight match, his captaincy was questioned, and with the bat he again failed to deliver a meaningful start, managing only seven runs before Jacob Duffy dismissed him. Across CSK\u2019s three IPL 2026 outings, Gaikwad has scored 41 runs in total, with a highest score of 28.<\/p>\n

RCB\u2019s big total and CSK\u2019s chase unravel<\/h2>\n

  1. RCB were put in to bat first and finished their innings on 250\/3 in the allotted twenty overs.<\/li>\n
  2. Tim David was the standout performer, blasting 70 off 25 balls, including eight maximums.<\/li>\n
  3. Captain Rajat Patidar contributed with a quick, unbeaten 49 as the RCB batting unit took control early and kept the pressure on CSK\u2019s bowlers.<\/li>\n
  4. CSK\u2019s chase began disastrously, with Sanju Samson, Gaikwad and Ayush Mhatre all departing within the first three overs.<\/li>\n
  5. Sarfaraz Khan (50), Prashant Veer (43) and Jamie Overton (37) provided fight with important knocks, but the required momentum never fully arrived.<\/li>\n
  6. In the end, CSK were unable to reach the target and lost by 43 runs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    There was also evidence that CSK\u2019s fielding let Bengaluru keep running with the momentum. During the powerplay, Virat Kohli\u2019s catch was dropped, and Anshul Kamboj overstepped when Tim David was bowled. At that point David had scored 28, yet he went on to complete his innings with an unbeaten 70.<\/p>\n

    Reflecting on those moments, Gaikwad said, \u201cAnshul almost got a wicket of him. Unfortunately, it was an illegal delivery, but after that, he just smacked all around the park.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He also addressed how the match swung, adding, \u201cMaybe we would have had momentum to ourselves, but I think we still had the game in our hands till the 13th, 14th over, and that\u2019s when the momentum really shifted.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Despite the eventual margin, CSK briefly appeared capable of pushing the contest further. For much of the chase, it looked like Bengaluru might win by something closer to 80 or 90, but a late-order surge helped avoid a heavier defeat. Still, Gaikwad insisted the responsibility ultimately rested with him and his top-order approach.<\/p>\n

    Speaking after the loss, Gaikwad said, \u201cEven I was surprised, to be honest. Great fight by Sarfaraz, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, and even to some extent Shivam Dubey. So I think, maybe I would have, contributed more top of the order. You never know, they would have chased it down.
