Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao conceded that his team\u2019s catching let them down as they suffered a six-wicket loss to Punjab Kings, despite posting a huge 264 for 2. The defeat marked Delhi\u2019s fourth loss of the season, and it came after the hosts misjudged several key chances in the field\u2014creating opportunities that Punjab\u2019s batters turned into a record-setting chase.<\/p>\n

Rao admits catching must improve<\/h2>\n

  1. Rao acknowledged that Delhi dropped \u201calmost six\u201d catches during the match, stressing that missing chances at crucial moments often decides results in T20 cricket.<\/li>\n
  2. He said players such as Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer were given lifelines, and Delhi must learn to convert chances into pressure rather than allow momentum to shift.<\/li>\n
  3. Rao underlined the simple point that if catches are missed, defending a large total becomes extremely difficult, adding that the side needs to improve in this area.<\/li>\n
  4. He also referenced the previous game against SRH, where Delhi dropped Abhishek twice, saying that in this format there is no room for such errors.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Ngidi injury disrupts bowling plans<\/h2>\n

    Delhi received another blow when pacer Lungi Ngidi injured himself while attempting a catch near the boundary in the third over. The South African struck the back of his head on the ground and was immediately taken to hospital, which meant he could not take further part in the match.<\/p>\n

    With Ngidi ruled out, his four-over quota had to be shared among the other bowlers. Rao pointed to the impact of the overall chase and highlighted the difference that missed chances can make when a team fails to take control with the ball.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWhen we see this kind of scoreboard and miss 24 balls, four overs, it makes a difference. We hope Lungi Ngidi recovers fast and comes back. I cannot comment on more right now,\u201d Rao said.<\/p>\n

    KL Rahul\u2019s record 152 not enough<\/h2>\n

    Despite Delhi\u2019s fielding struggles, their batting effort set the stage for a remarkable match. Senior batter KL Rahul top-scored with an unbeaten 152, which became the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. Rahul\u2019s innings was built on consistent strike and control through the innings, and he finished the job without being dismissed.<\/p>\n

    Rao praised Rahul\u2019s approach, noting that nobody could have known in advance how the pitch would play, but Rahul continued to time the ball well. He also specifically highlighted Rahul\u2019s composure into the final over and the responsibility he took as a senior player.<\/p>\n

    \u201cCredit goes to KL, the way he handled it. Nobody knows how the pitch behaved, but he kept striking the ball well. The way he played till the last over, hats off. He continued his form,\u201d Rao said.<\/p>\n

    He added: \u201cIn this format, you cannot relax. He took responsibility as a senior player and you saw the difference this year in what he can bring. I am happy for him. We could not get the win, but we will come back strong next match.\u201d<\/p>\n
