Rohit Sharma has been sidelined for Mumbai Indians\u2019 last three matches in the IPL 2026 season, but he is now viewed as a strong candidate to return for the upcoming fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. Reports indicate the India captain has stepped up the intensity of his training and gym sessions, doing so without any reported pain or discomfort\u2014an update that has left the team\u2019s medical staff optimistic about his availability.<\/p>\n

Rohit\u2019s IPL campaign was abruptly disrupted when he picked up a hamstring injury during Mumbai\u2019s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12. The setback has kept him out of three games in total, with the list of absences including clashes versus Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, as well as the much-anticipated \u201cEl Clasico\u201d against Chennai Super Kings.<\/p>\n

Late return signals and training session<\/h2>\n

  1. After Mumbai\u2019s heavy loss to CSK, Rohit reportedly took part in an optional practice session.<\/li>\n
  2. During the session, he appeared to be in good rhythm with his batting strokes, giving further reason for optimism.<\/li>\n
  3. He trained alongside other senior Indian members of the squad, including captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    With Rohit missing the top order, Mumbai have tried multiple opening combinations. Quinton de Kock was brought in first and made an impact by scoring 112 runs in a knock described as valiant. In the next match, however, Rohit\u2019s usual opening partner Ryan Rickelton was dropped.<\/p>\n

    Rickelton\u2019s role has been filled in recent games by 22-year-old Danish Malewar. Over Mumbai\u2019s last two outings, Malewar has been handed the opportunity at the start of the innings, but the adjustment has not paid off so far, with the batter managing only 2 runs in total across those matches.<\/p>\n

    A Rohit comeback would be a significant lift for a Mumbai side currently sitting in ninth place in the points standings, having won just two games from seven.
