With the playoffs picture tightening, fans may have to wait longer\u2014or possibly not see Dhoni at all in the yellow jersey\u2014depending on how Super Kings shape their campaign.<\/p>\n

Why Dhoni\u2019s comeback is being linked to CSK\u2019s playoff chances<\/h2>\n

Former Super Kings spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes Dhoni will only return if Chennai are forced out of the race and the franchise\u2019s situation changes. Ashwin\u2019s suggestion is that, as long as CSK are still in the hunt for the top four, taking any additional risk with Dhoni\u2019s fitness may not be worth it. If Chennai advance to the next stage, Dhoni\u2019s absence could continue, leaving supporters without the familiar finish he provides at the death.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a detailed discussion, Ashwin pointed to the current state of the team and argued that CSK still have a realistic opportunity to qualify. He also referenced the franchise\u2019s recent form, saying their bowling has been effective and that, if their batting shows up at the right time, the side can string together consecutive victories and climb back into contention.<\/p>\n
