Delhi Capitals all-rounder Kyle Jamieson admitted he was \u201cfull of fears\u201d when he had to bowl to 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the IPL 2026 clash against the Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday night. After Jamieson entered the attack in the second over, the crowd was braced for a big statement from the left-handed teenager, and Sooryavanshi immediately delivered \u2014 driving the first ball straight back past mid-off and seemingly setting up another tough spell for Delhi\u2019s bowlers. It also appeared to echo Delhi\u2019s recent struggles, with the franchise having failed to defend 264 against Punjab Kings a few days earlier.<\/p>\n
Everything changed quickly. From out of nowhere, Jamieson produced a yorker that struck the toe-end of Sooryavanshi\u2019s bat, then deflected off the back pad as the ball found its way to the stumps. The Jaipur crowd fell silent in an instant, and Jamieson later described the mental state he was in before delivering that spell.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think I have ever been so fearful of a 15-year-old kid in my life. But, yeah, we had obviously done a bit of planning leading into the game, and it was just nice that it paid off,\u201d Jamieson said after DC\u2019s seven-wicket win.<\/p>\n
Jamieson linked the impact of his own dismissal to the rhythm created earlier in the innings by Mitchell Starc. Starc, playing his first IPL match of the season, had already struck in the previous over, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal.<\/p>\n
Jamieson explained the thinking behind the early wickets: \u201cFor most teams, looking at the Rajasthan side, it\u2019s their top-two especially, they\u2019ve got them off to fliers. Starcy got one with the old high full joss, and I got one with the yorker, so it was nice to get away early, and sort of, I guess, stem the flow a little bit in the Powerplay.\u201d<\/p>\n
Starc stood out as the leading performer for Delhi Capitals. He returned to action for the first time in over three months after recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries, and immediately made his presence felt. In his spell, Starc dismissed Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja and Riyan Parag \u2014 with Parag noted as Rajasthan\u2019s top scorer on the day, making 90.<\/p>\n
Jamieson also lavished praise on the left-arm pacer, calling him \u201cworld-class\u201d and highlighting how valuable it is to have such a bowler in the side. He added that Starc\u2019s arrival came at the right time as Delhi looked to make progress in the points race.<\/p>\n
Jamieson concluded with his thoughts on sharing the new ball and having Starc in the XI: \u201cHe\u2019s world-class, right? So whenever you have one of those guys in your side, it\u2019s, you know, a huge benefit. He came at the right time; we sort of needed to get a bit of a move on, um, on the points table.
