Rovman Powell pulled off a breathtaking one-handed catch to send Heinrich Klaasen back during Kolkata Knight Riders\u2019 IPL 2026 clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday, a moment that swung the contest at a key stage of the innings.<\/p>\n

How the turning wicket unfolded<\/h2>\n

  1. It happened on the fourth ball of the 11th over, when SRH were on 117\/2 and moving at close to 11 runs per over.<\/li>\n
  2. Cameron Green delivered a slower ball, landing around a short length just outside the off stump.<\/li>\n
  3. Klaasen, then on 11 from eight balls (including one four and one six), stepped back and tried to pull the delivery.<\/li>\n
  4. He failed to get a clean connection, and the ball lifted toward deep mid-wicket.<\/li>\n
  5. Powell read it quickly, sprinted to his right, and brought himself under the catch late.<\/li>\n
  6. With the ball descending and his body already off balance, he launched into the air and completed the take with one hand.<\/li>\n
  7. He landed heavily, tumbled, and still managed to keep the ball secured.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The umpires referred the decision upstairs because of Powell\u2019s low landing and the movement after the catch. Replays indicated that Powell\u2019s fingers were under the ball and that he maintained control through the downward phase. The third umpire upheld the dismissal, handing KKR a major wicket in the middle overs.<\/p>\n

    Why Klaasen\u2019s dismissal mattered<\/h2>\n

    The timing was crucial. SRH had chosen to bat first and were positioned strongly thanks to an aggressive start: Travis Head slammed 61 off 27 balls, while Abhishek Sharma helped sustain the tempo during the powerplay. When Klaasen was removed, SRH still had more than nine overs left, meaning they were set up to reach a far bigger total.<\/p>\n

    But Klaasen\u2019s role made the wicket even more significant. He is a key middle- and death-overs hitter for Sunrisers, and his presence from the 11th over onward could have enabled the side to keep attacking even after Head\u2019s dismissal.     By removing a dangerous batter before SRH could push into the late-innings phase, KKR cut off a potential acceleration.
