Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma has moved to clarify remarks that sparked online chatter after he described Rajasthan Royals teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as \u201cunprofessional.\u201d The comments were made in a conversation where Jitesh was asked to identify a promising young Indian prospect, and while he initially highlighted Sooryavanshi\u2019s skill and mindset, he later explained that the phrase was taken out of context.<\/p>\n
The statement traces back to Jitesh\u2019s appearance on AB de Villiers\u2019 YouTube channel. During the chat, Jitesh was prompted to name a young Indian player who he believes has the potential to become a major star. Without hesitation, he selected Sooryavanshi, pointing to his all-round abilities and temperament.<\/p>\n
Jitesh said that when AB asked, \u201cWhich youngster do you think could become an Indian star or player?\u201d, his immediate answer was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He added that his reasoning centred on the teenager\u2019s technique, mentality, and hard work, along with the impression that Sooryavanshi could dominate across all three formats. However, Jitesh added that \u201cin reality\u201d the teenager does not always behave with the same level of professionalism expected at the highest level of cricket.<\/p>\n
Speaking later on an RCB podcast, Jitesh addressed the backlash and put the wording into perspective. He stressed that his relationship with Sooryavanshi shapes how he speaks about him, highlighting how well they know each other.<\/p>\n
Jitesh also defended the teenager by describing his off-field nature as typical of someone his age. He portrayed Sooryavanshi as enjoying simple pleasures and said the two spend time together in a relaxed way.<\/p>\n
When asked to respond to the criticism, Jitesh played down the noise. He argued that while professionalism is required for someone performing at this level, it is unrealistic to treat a teenager like he is fully grown. In his view, the youngster should not be weighed down with expectations beyond his age.<\/p>\n
