Bangladesh women\u2019s cricket captain Nigar Sultana Joty has been issued an official reprimand after a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third T20 International against Sri Lanka in Sylhet on Saturday. The matter was linked to an incident involving match equipment during the game.<\/p>\n
The ICC said Nigar was found in violation of Article 2.2 of its Code, which covers \u201cabuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.\u201d Along with the reprimand, she received one demerit point. It was her first offence within the preceding 24-month period.<\/p>\n
The ICC noted that Nigar admitted the breach and accepted the sanction, meaning a formal hearing was not required. \u201cNigar admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing,\u201d the ICC said in its update on Monday.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred during Bangladesh\u2019s innings. After being dismissed, Nigar threw her bat onto the ground before walking off the field.<\/p>\n
Because she accepted the charge and agreed to the penalty suggested by match referee Supriya Rani Das, who is part of the Emirates ICC International Panel, the ICC did not conduct a formal hearing.<\/p>\n
The charge was raised by the on-field umpires, Eloise Sheridan and Shathira Jakir Jesy, with support from third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Champa Chakma.<\/p>\n
For Level 1 offences, the ICC\u2019s range of punishment includes an official reprimand, or a fine that can be as high as 50% of the player\u2019s match fee, together with one or two demerit points.<\/p>\n
In the series itself, Sri Lanka women finished the contest with a 3-0 win over Bangladesh. Sri Lanka secured the opening T20I by 25 runs and then won the second by 21 runs.
