Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel hailed his team\u2019s character after they edged Punjab Kings by three wickets in an IPL encounter on Monday at the HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala. With the chase requiring 211, DC dug themselves out of trouble and reached 216\/7 in 19 overs, keeping their playoff hopes very much on track.<\/p>\n

PBKS set the target<\/h2>\n

  1. Punjab Kings made 210\/5, capitalising on a fast start.<\/li>\n
  2. Priyansh Arya struck 56 off 33 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh provided support at the other end.<\/li>\n
  3. DC captain Shreyas Iyer then steadied the innings with an unbeaten 59 off 36 balls.<\/li>\n
  4. Suryansh Shedge added late momentum with a quickfire 21*.<\/li>\n
  5. In DC\u2019s bowling, Mukesh Kumar delivered figures of 1\/31 in four overs, and Madhav returned 2\/40 in four overs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    DC chase 211 successfully<\/h2>\n

    1. DC began the pursuit but slipped to 74\/4, seemingly tightening the pressure.<\/li>\n
    2. Axar Patel led the recovery with a brisk 56 off 33 balls.<\/li>\n
    3. David Miller then injected urgency, smashing 51 off 28 deliveries.<\/li>\n
    4. Axar and Miller combined for a rapid 64-run stand that swung the contest back in DC\u2019s favour.<\/li>\n
    5. Even with wickets falling late, DC\u2019s lower order held its nerve to finish the job.<\/li>\n
    6. Ashutosh Sharma made 24 off 10 balls, while Madhav Tiwari remained not out on 18 off 8.<\/li>\n
    7. Auqib Nabi sealed the chase with a last flourish, striking 10* off just 2 balls as DC reached 216\/7 in 19 overs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      For Punjab Kings, the defeat was compounded by dropped chances, below-par bowling spells, and costly fielding mistakes. It marked their fourth straight loss in the competition.<\/p>\n

      Post-match reactions<\/h2>\n

      After the match, Axar Patel expressed satisfaction with DC\u2019s all-round display and said he hoped the team could build momentum from this result into their remaining fixtures. He pointed to how the bowlers responded after conceding 60 runs in the early phase, then managed to restrict Punjab Kings to 72 in the powerplay\u2014calling that period a decisive turning point.<\/p>\n

      Axar also singled out the middle-overs impact of Mukesh and Madhav, the importance of his partnership with Miller, and the composure shown by the younger players in closing out the chase. He especially praised Sahil Parakh for his 13 runs off 6 balls, saying the youngster has the potential to grow into a very good player. Axar added that having such talent around him gives him confidence as captain.<\/p>\n

      \u201cVery happy with how the team played, and hopefully we can do the same in the next two games. In the bowling, first 3-4 overs, they had 60 runs but to finish with only 72 in the powerplay, that was a winning moment. Then, Mukesh and Madhav bowling in the middle, and after that, my partnership with Miller, with the youngsters then finishing off the game. The cricket we are playing and the players we have, the future is strong. The runs Sahil also made, I had said before as well, he could be a good player in the future. A captain is very happy when he has youngsters like this, and as you said, the Delhi Capitals can do anything,\u201d Axar said during the presentation.<\/p>\n

      Madhav Tiwari, who earned the Player of the Match award for his all-round impact, thanked the team management for backing him and said he was delighted to contribute to DC\u2019s victory. He said he has worked hard to sharpen his bowling and improve his range-hitting with the help of his batting coach. When asked about his all-round abilities, he joked that he is both \u201c100 percent bowler\u201d and \u201c100 percent batter\u201d.<\/p>\n
