  4. At the toss, Bumrah joked that he \u201cdidn\u2019t think\u201d he would become a Test captain before captaining Mumbai Indians.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The captaincy debut arrived after a lengthy wait. Bumrah had already played 156 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians before stepping into the leadership role, placing him as the second-most senior Mumbai Indians player to lead an IPL side for the first time.<\/p>\n

With this promotion, Bumrah also became the 10th player to captain Mumbai Indians in the franchise\u2019s history\u2014an additional twist in a season that has already featured plenty of unexpected changes for the five-time champions.<\/p>\n

    His rise to captaincy also underlined the scale of his experience within the league before taking responsibility. In the franchise\u2019s \u201cmost matches before first captaincy\u201d timeline, the figures read: Ravindra Jadeja (200), Jasprit Bumrah (156), Manish Pandey (153), Axar Patel (148), Kieron Pollard (137) and Suryakumar Yadav (126).<\/p>\n

    Despite Mumbai Indians struggling close to the bottom of the points table\u2014having managed only three wins from 11 matches\u2014Bumrah projected a forward-looking attitude. He stressed that the team wanted to treat the final phase as an opportunity rather than surrender the season.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWhen cricket gives you good days, you take it. When it gives you challenges, it\u2019s come to teach you something,\u201d Bumrah said. He added that the group aimed to make the most of the remaining three fixtures and \u201cruffle a few teams\u201d before the campaign ends.<\/p>\n

    For Bumrah, the captaincy was also about embracing pressure as a new test. \u201cI like responsibility. This is a new challenge. I\u2019ll look to have fun,\u201d he said\u2014words that captured the essence of the evening.<\/p>\n
