Tentative Asian Games dates are September 17 to October 3.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nFor more than a year, voices from across the cricket world\u2014including Ian Bishop, Michael Vaughan, Michael Clarke, Shikhar Dhawan, Kris Srikkanth and several others\u2014have pushed the BCCI to move quickly and bring Sooryavanshi into the India setup. Early glimpses of his ability sparked instant comparisons, with many drawing parallels to Sachin Tendulkar. This season, the buzz intensified as the 15-year-old took elite pace attacks apart, clearing the ropes with ease against bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.<\/p>\n
The selection of Sooryavanshi follows that momentum. On Thursday, when the selectors unveiled the India A squad led by Tilak Varma, his name was included in the final group. The India A assignment is set for Dambulla, where the tri-series will run from June 9 through June 21.<\/p>\n
Why the India A call-up matters<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
A report highlighted that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel wanted Sooryavanshi to be tested at the India A level before being considered for the senior side\u2019s next white-ball commitments. Those senior matches are expected to include the UK tour starting June 26, with Ireland and England on the itinerary.<\/p>\n
Earlier, there were already indications that Sooryavanshi could be fast-tracked for the Ireland series. Such a debut would have made him the youngest Indian to play international cricket, nudging past Sachin Tendulkar\u2019s landmark first appearance at 16 years and 205 days during the 1989 Karachi Test against Pakistan. With that kind of milestone in play, the timing of this India A selection naturally raises questions about whether the debut can be pulled off immediately.<\/p>\n
In practice, the Sri Lanka schedule creates a logistical hurdle. The one-day tri-series ends on June 21, while the Ireland tour begins just five days later. With a flight distance of over 9,000 kilometres involved, the BCCI is unlikely to rush the youngster across for a short two-match T20I stint immediately after the Sri Lanka campaign.<\/p>\n
That said, the pathway is not closed\u2014only delayed. If Sooryavanshi\u2019s early performances in Sri Lanka are so convincing that selectors feel they cannot afford to wait, the BCCI could still fast-track him into the senior T20I squad right after the initial matches. In other words, the India debut timeline may depend on how quickly he impacts during the opening phase of the India A programme.<\/p>\n
If Sri Lanka does not accelerate the plan, the next likely option is the England leg of the UK tour, scheduled between July 1 and July 11. Even that window looks challenging, though, because India are expected to lean on proven T20 names. Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan are already being talked about as candidates for the opening roles, which could reduce space for a sudden middle-of-tour inclusion.<\/p>\n
Next possible debut windows<\/h3>\n
So when might Sooryavanshi finally wear the India cap? The Zimbabwe tour in late July appears to be the most realistic opening for his senior debut. A more probable push could also come later in the year, depending on how schedules align during major multi-team events.<\/p>\n
One such possibility is the overlap between the Asian Games and India\u2019s home T20I series against West Indies. The West Indies tour is set to run from October 6 to October 17, while tentative Asian Games dates are listed as September 17 to October 3.
