Kolkata Knight Riders welcomed Gujarat Titans to Eden Gardens on Saturday and delivered a 29-run victory. It was a notable upset of sorts—KKR coming in as the side ranked lower in the standings than their visitors—yet the chase still never truly gathered momentum. While the Purple Cap standings stayed largely unchanged, the Orange Cap race reshaped itself in the aftermath.
Orange Cap leaderboard
Gujarat ultimately fell short, but their top order made sure KKR’s total didn’t look unreachable. Openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill kept probing during the chase, even as the required rate steadily climbed after KKR posted 247.
Sudharsan’s night began with a scare: he retired hurt after being struck by a Kartik Tyagi delivery in the third over, having made 23 off 13 balls at that point. He later returned to action in the 17th over when Gill was dismissed, and carried the momentum forward with a 49-ball 85.
From there, he added another 30 runs from 15 more deliveries and ended unbeaten on 53 off 28. The finish mattered—because in a chase of this size, staying at the crease is often the difference between a near-miss and a complete collapse.
Quick facts: Orange Cap shake-up
- KKR beat GT by 29 runs at Eden Gardens.
- KKR posted 247; GT fell short in their chase.
- B Sai Sudharsan finished unbeaten on 53 off 28 (after a brief retirement hurt).
- Sudharsan’s season tally moved to 554, taking the top spot on the run-scorers’ list.
- Shubman Gill’s third 80-plus score of the season lifted him to second place with 552 runs.
- Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped to third with 508 runs.
- Top five also included Virat Kohli (484) and Abhishek Sharma (481).
- Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 82* off 44, reaching 422 runs and moving to 13th.
With that unbeaten knock, Sudharsan’s season aggregate reached 554, placing him firmly at number one on the run charts. This isn’t unfamiliar territory for him either—he had won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025.
Gill, meanwhile, produced his third score of 80-plus for the campaign. The knock propelled him into second place on 552 runs, putting him just behind Sudharsan in the tight race.
Those gains also pushed Heinrich Klaasen temporarily down the order of the contenders. The Sunrisers Hyderabad batter remains the only other player with a 500-plus haul this season, sitting on 508 runs, but he slipped to third as the new numbers came in.
Rounding out the top five were Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Klaasen’s SRH teammate Abhishek Sharma. Kohli is on 484 runs, while Abhishek follows closely with 481.
There’s still a significant gap between the leaders and the rest—so much so that KKR’s Angkrish Raghuvanshi sits well outside the top ten. Yet he still contributed meaningfully, striking for an unbeaten 82 off 44 balls, which moved him to 13th place with 422 runs.
It was Raghuvanshi’s fifth fifty-plus effort of the season. His count also sits alongside four other batters, while Sudharsan is ahead with six such scores plus one century.
Purple Cap leaderboard
The Purple Cap picture didn’t change much at all. Rashid Khan and Tyagi—who were tied in a cluster of four on 16 wickets before the match—stayed in that group after both finished wicketless. Kagiso Rabada also remained without a wicket, keeping him in second place.
Behind the scenes, the order is still led by RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who tops the list with 22 wickets. After him, Rabada sits on 21, and Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) follows with 19.
Rashid and Tyagi, along with Prince Yadav from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and SRH’s Eshan Malinga, are positioned only just below the top three—forming the next tier of wicket-takers as the season continues to build.
