Delhi Capitals (DC) have kept their IPL 2026 playoff dream alive with a crucial five-wicket triumph over Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday. Heading into the contest, DC’s chances of finishing in the top four looked almost negligible, but the win at Arun Jaitley Stadium has given them a noticeable lift in a congested mid-table race. At the same time, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have continued to dominate the qualification picture, officially confirming their place in the knockout round on the points table.
After the DC vs RR match, the latest qualification probability figures were updated, and they painted a clear hierarchy at the top. RCB have now mathematically secured a spot in the playoffs. Gujarat Titans (GT) sit close behind with a commanding 99.2% likelihood of reaching the top four, even after a recent setback against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are next, holding a strong 75% chance of qualification.
The most intense competition, however, is for the fourth position. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the defending champions, currently have a 35.5% probability, with RR just behind at 34.8%. Punjab Kings (PBKS) trail slightly with a 31.1% chance, even though the Shreyas Iyer-led side is placed fourth in the standings at the moment. Below the leading group, KKR’s prospects have dropped to 13.9% following their most recent defeat, while DC are up to 10.6% after their victory over RR.
On the field, DC’s chase of 194 was built on a blend of aggression and control. Abishek Porel struck an impressive half-century, scoring 51 off 31 balls, while captain KL Rahul provided the steady platform with an anchor innings of 56 off 42 deliveries. Late acceleration proved decisive as Axar Patel smashed 34 off 18 to swing momentum firmly in DC’s favour. With the ball, Mitchell Starc delivered a major impact spell, finishing with figures of 4 for 40, helping DC restrict RR enough to chase down the target and win with four balls remaining.
RR, for their part, posted 193 for 8 in their innings. Riyan Parag played a key role with 51 off 26 balls, while Dhruv Jurel added stability by contributing 53, keeping the Royals within touching distance of the kind of total that can defend late in the chase. Yet the loss has made RR’s path harder, because their qualification for the top four is no longer fully under their control. Even if they win their remaining two matches to reach 16 points from those games, results elsewhere could still determine whether they secure the required finishing position.
With DC’s win, the race for the remaining playoff places has opened up dramatically. As the league stage moves into its final week, KKR, CSK, and PBKS are all still in contention alongside DC and RR, setting up one of the tightest qualification battles of the season’s closing stretch.
