Mumbai Indians have ruled out batter Quinton de Kock and all-rounder Raj Bawa from the rest of IPL 2026 after injuries forced both players to begin recovery away from the franchise. The duo’s absences will also trigger squad changes in line with league replacement procedures.
Injuries and timeline of the setbacks
- Quinton de Kock picked up a tendon problem in his left wrist ahead of Mumbai Indians’ match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29.
- Raj Bawa suffered a ligament tear in his right thumb while playing for Mumbai Indians’ squad against Punjab Kings last week.
- Following the medical assessment, both players will continue rehabilitation at home, with support from the Mumbai Indians medical staff.
In a team statement, Mumbai Indians said: “Both Quinton and Raj Bawa will continue their rehab in their respective homes, with support and guidance from the Mumbai Indians medical team to help them return to play as soon as possible.” The franchise added that it wishes the two players a quick recovery and will name replacements according to IPL guidelines.
How the season has gone for both players
De Kock and Bawa have both appeared in only three matches each for Mumbai Indians during IPL 2026. De Kock’s final appearance for the side came against Chennai Super Kings on April 23. Bawa, meanwhile, played against Punjab Kings in Mumbai’s prior outing on May 14.
De Kock’s batting return included a standout 112 not out in his opening game of the season, but his next two innings brought scores of 13 and 7. For Bawa, he had one innings with the bat, scoring 16. With the ball, he claimed two wickets and finished with an average of 25.
MI’s playoff status and next fixture
Mumbai Indians have already been knocked out of the race for the playoffs this season. They currently sit ninth in the points table, having collected eight points from 12 matches. Their next assignment is against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
