Shubman Gill kept the attention on social media after Gujarat Titans completed a commanding league double over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, adding yet another viral post-match caption to the rivalry’s growing storyline.
Gujarat’s league-stage dominance over CSK
Gujarat sealed a decisive victory against CSK in Ahmedabad on May 21, a result that mathematically ended Chennai’s hopes of reaching the playoffs. The win also ensured the Titans finished inside the top two on the points table.
Gujarat’s overall league campaign read as nine wins and five losses from 14 matches, underlining how firmly they controlled the season’s middle phase.
This was the second occasion in the tournament that Gill and his team managed to outplay Chennai in head-to-head meetings.
The earlier Chepauk clash that sparked the banter
The season’s first chapter of the Gil–CSK showdown had already produced a viral moment earlier in the campaign. On April 26, Gujarat visited Chepauk and handed CSK a crushing defeat.
How the first meeting unfolded
- Gujarat chose to bowl first and their attack dominated from the outset.
- Kagiso Rabada delivered a blistering powerplay spell, taking 3/25 as CSK were restricted to 158/7.
- In reply, Sai Sudharsan steered the chase with an impressive 87 off 46 balls.
- Gujarat completed the run chase comfortably, finishing with 20 balls to spare.
Gill’s first viral caption
After that landmark win at Chepauk, Gill drew plenty of reactions online by sharing a photo of himself holding a whistle, captioned “Nandri Chennai.” The line became part of the season’s teasing back-and-forth between the camps.
Reverse fixture at Narendra Modi Stadium: another demolition
The banter didn’t end with the first meeting. Gujarat once again dismantled CSK in the reverse encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, and Gill repeated the social media fireworks after the match.
Gujarat’s batting: 229/4
Batting first, the Titans’ top order set the tone with a relentless barrage. Gill struck 64 off 37 balls, while Sai Sudharsan continued his rich form, scoring 84 off 53 deliveries.
Jos Buttler then provided the finishing flourish, remaining unbeaten on 57 off just 23 balls as Gujarat posted 229/4.
CSK collapse: 140 all out in 13.4 overs
Chennai’s chase never gained momentum after Mohammed Siraj struck early. Siraj dismissed Sanju Samson for a duck and also removed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply.
CSK did find a brief surge through Shivam Dube, who smashed 47 off 17 balls, but the innings folded quickly after that. Chennai were bowled out for 140 in 13.4 overs, with Rashid Khan and Rabada cleaning up the tail end.
Gill’s second caption after the Ahmedabad win
Following the emphatic victory, Gill once again grabbed the spotlight online with a cheeky line aimed at CSK. After the win, the Gujarat skipper posted: “Nandri 2 Yellow lights, blue ending.”
