Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Eden Gardens, with both sides looking to make the most of the crucial contest.
For KKR, the path to the playoffs is still alive—but not in isolation. To secure a fourth-place berth, KKR need Mumbai Indians (MI) to defeat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the match underway at the Wankhede Stadium. After that, their equation against DC would hinge on the target they set: if DC are limited to 180, KKR would have to chase it down in roughly 12 to 12.4 overs, depending on their eventual winning chase.
KKR made a personnel adjustment as Angkrish Raghuvanshi was ruled out due to a concussion and a finger injury, with Tejasvi Dahiya brought into the XI.
DC’s captain Axar Patel indicated that his team also wanted to bowl first. “I won’t say we played badly, but we failed to capitalise on the chances we got,” he said, summing up DC’s season so far.
Delhi made two changes as well, with Auqib Nabi coming in for Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav replacing T Vijay.
The venue has seen limited action this season, hosting only one match so far: KKR’s second fixture, where they were beaten by Sunrisers Hyderabad by 65 runs. The boundary measurements at Eden Gardens are 61 metres and 68 metres along the square, while the straight boundary is 74 metres.
