RR seals IPL 2026 playoffs spot; RCB-GT finale decides last ticket

Rajasthan Royals secured their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs with a decisive final-round league victory, bringing clarity to the tournament’s last unsettled spot. The win lifted RR to 16 points, placing them firmly ahead of Punjab Kings and completing the four-team knockout bracket. With the equation resolved, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals emerged as the playoff contenders, while Punjab Kings ended in fifth on 15 points. Kolkata Knight Riders’ slim mathematical hopes also faded once Rajasthan crossed the line.

RR’s late surge seals the top-four

Rajasthan entered their last league match with the situation straightforward: a win would automatically send them through. Anything short of that threatened to complicate matters, potentially forcing the race to hinge on net run rate and leaving Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders with a final lifeline. RR avoided that scenario entirely by winning their final game and finishing the league phase with eight victories from 14 outings.

That haul secured fourth position for Rajasthan and set up an Eliminator clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad. At the top, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished on 18 points, also claiming the strongest net run rate among the teams tied on points. Gujarat Titans matched that 18-point total as well, but their net run rate placed them second. Sunrisers Hyderabad also ended on 18 points, yet their inferior net run rate meant they took third spot despite finishing with nine league wins.

The final standings created a sharp division in incentives. Bengaluru and Titans both earned the advantage of Qualifier 1, where even defeat keeps the losing side in the hunt for the title through the next match. Sunrisers, however, face the pressure of an immediate knockout after finishing third. Rajasthan enter that same sudden-death environment with momentum after pulling off their own survival act in the last league round.

Playoff fixtures: dates and venues

Qualifier 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Gujarat Titans. The winner will advance directly to the IPL 2026 final, while the defeated side will not be eliminated and instead receive another chance in Qualifier 2.

The Eliminator follows on Wednesday, May 27, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, with Sunrisers Hyderabad meeting Rajasthan Royals. This match offers no second chances: the victor progresses to Qualifier 2, while the loser’s season comes to an end. Qualifier 2 is set for Friday, May 29, also in Mullanpur, and it will pit the loser of the RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 against the winner of the SRH vs RR Eliminator.

The championship match will be played on Sunday, May 31, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With the bracket now confirmed, Bengaluru and Gujarat have the clearest path to the final, since a single win in Qualifier 1 can take them straight to Ahmedabad. Sunrisers and Rajasthan, by contrast, must navigate a longer route that demands victory in the Eliminator and then again in Qualifier 2 before they can reach the final stage. For Rajasthan, the playoffs have already begun in spirit: their last league match was a test of survival, and they passed it. From here, the tournament becomes pure knockout cricket.
