A day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted the IPL 2026 trophy, batting star Tim David has been hit with a disciplinary sanction. The league has fined him 50% of his match fee and added two demerit points after he breached Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Final against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
What Tim David was cited for
The charge relates to Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers incidents involving “throwing a ball (or any other piece of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a player, team official, umpire, match referee or any other third person” in an inappropriate and/or dangerous way during a match.
- The incident took place in the 10th over of the first innings.
- After a wicket fell, David threw an ice bag aggressively toward umpire Nitin Menon.
- David admitted the offence and accepted the penalty set by the match referee, Mr Javagal Srinath.
How the season tally adds up
This was David’s third Level 1 breach of the season. Earlier, he had received one demerit point for a Level 1 offence in Match 20, and two demerit points for another Level 1 breach in Match 54.
With the latest two-point addition, David’s total now stands at five demerit points, which carries a one-match suspension. As a result, he will miss RCB’s opening fixture of the next IPL season, or the first match of the franchise he represents in IPL 2027.
