IPL 2026: BCCI reshuffles GT vs CSK double-header due to Gujarat civic polls

The BCCI has made a revision to the IPL 2026 fixture list, altering the match dates and host venues for the Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings double-header. The change comes in view of municipal corporation elections planned across Gujarat on April 26, with polling also scheduled in Ahmedabad and a number of other cities. Vote counting is slated for April 28.

What prompted the IPL 2026 change?

The BCCI said the update is required due to elections in Gujarat on April 26, 2026. The electoral process is set to take place not only in Ahmedabad but also in places including Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Karamsad–Anand, Gandhidham, Nadiad, Navsari, Porbandar, Mehsana, Morbi, Vapi and Surendranagar.

IPL 2026 schedule: Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings — revised venues

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced the revised dates and locations for the Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings fixtures, swapping the sites for the two meetings while keeping the original match timings intact.

  1. The afternoon game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, originally planned for April 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, has been moved to Chennai.
  2. That match will now be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 26, starting at 3:30 PM IST.
  3. The return match, previously scheduled for May 21 in Chennai, has been shifted to Ahmedabad.
  4. The May 21 Ahmedabad fixture will continue to begin at 7:30 PM IST.
  5. The remainder of the IPL 2026 schedule is unchanged, with the tournament entering its key mid-season stretch.

The BCCI added in its release that the adjustment has been necessitated due to municipal corporation elections in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat on April 26, 2026.

Points table update and next fixtures

Looking ahead, five-time champions Chennai Super Kings are set to play Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on Tuesday. CSK began their campaign with a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals.

Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, have secured four points from four matches and are currently positioned fifth in the standings. GT will take on Kolkata Knight Riders next in Ahmedabad on Friday.
