SRH Sign Gerald Coetzee as Injury Replacement for David Payne

Sunrisers Hyderabad have moved to strengthen their pace bowling group by bringing in South Africa quick Gerald Coetzee as an injury cover for David Payne. Payne had appeared in two matches for the franchise this season before an ankle problem forced him out of the tournament.

Coetzee, 25, had gone unsold at this year’s player auction. He has prior IPL experience, having turned out for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, and he has taken 15 wickets across 14 appearances. The right-arm fast bowler was included in South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad, though he did not get a chance to play in the main event. After the marquee tournament, he returned to action and participated in all five T20 internationals against New Zealand.

Hyderabad will welcome Coetzee into the squad on a salary of INR 2 crore.

In a separate boost to their campaign, SRH also received their captain Pat Cummins ahead of schedule. Cummins joined the team on Friday, April 17, and is set to be available for the clash against the Rajasthan Royals on April 25. At present, the franchise sits in fifth place on the points table and will take on Chennai Super Kings later on April 18.
