Ayush Mhatre to Miss 3 Weeks After Hamstring Tear vs SRH, CSK Update

Chennai Super Kings batter Ayush Mhatre is expected to miss around three weeks of IPL 2026 action after suffering a tear to his left hamstring in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. The 18-year-old, who has been among CSK’s bright sparks this season, will have scans once the squad arrives in Mumbai ahead of their next game against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

Mhatre came in as an Impact Player and made an immediate impact, striking a quick 30 off 12 deliveries. However, the innings was cut short when he sustained the injury while running a double. He appeared visibly uncomfortable, grabbed his hamstring, and received prompt attention from the team physio on the field.

Reports suggest the problem may not be as severe as it first seemed, though the full picture will only become clear after the medical tests scheduled for Monday. While early signs indicate he was able to move around without significant pain, the extent of the tear—and how quickly he can return—will be determined following the scans.

Even after treatment, Mhatre continued batting for a short period, but his stay in the middle was brief. He was dismissed soon after, with Nitish Kumar Reddy getting the breakthrough.

Earlier in the day, CSK batting coach Mike Hussey confirmed that Mhatre has a hamstring tear. Hussey said the team would scan the youngster the next day or the day after, adding that it looked like a serious blow and would be a major loss for the side given the form Mhatre has shown recently.
