Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been hit with disciplinary action after a heated moment in their IPL match against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. The right-hander, who was at the centre of controversy following a third-umpire call that left him clearly frustrated after being given out for “obstructing the field,” has been fined 20% of his match fee and also received one demerit point.
The IPL’s official ruling said Raghuvanshi was found guilty of a Level 1 breach under Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct. That specific clause covers behaviour involving “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing” and also includes “ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.” In the statement, the league confirmed that the incident occurred during Match No. 38 against LSG, and that the sanction was imposed for the conduct that followed his dismissal.
As described in the IPL communication, the offence happened in the fifth over of KKR’s innings. After he was adjudged out for obstructing the field, Raghuvanshi responded by striking the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner. He then threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar show of frustration. The league added that Raghuvanshi admitted to the charge and accepted the punishment handed down by the Match Referee.
Under the IPL Code of Conduct, Level 1 violations can result in a range of outcomes, from formal reprimands to fines and the awarding of demerit points, based on how serious the incident is judged to be. The statement also noted that Raghuvanshi’s case fell within that Level 1 category, with the fine and the single demerit point forming part of the sanction.
The disciplinary development comes after a dramatic night of cricket in Lucknow. KKR managed to edge past LSG in a thrilling Super Over at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday night. In the run chase, LSG required seven runs off the last delivery when Mohammed Shami cleared the ropes with a six over long-off to send the contest into an additional round.
