IPL 2026 Cap Race Update: Purple Cap Race Heats Up After KKR vs DC

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a comfortable win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi on Friday night, leaving little doubt about the contest. With the next round of matches set to follow, here’s a fresh look at the Orange and Purple Cap standings in IPL 2026, and how the picture could shift after Rajasthan Royals (RR) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday.

Purple Cap leaderboard

The run-getters’ chart saw no movement in the upper tier, with even the top 20 remaining unchanged. KL Rahul, who is already positioned at No. 3, strengthened his standing with a knock of 23, bringing his total to 468 runs. That puts him within striking distance of Abhishek Sharma’s 475, while Heinrich Klaasen continues to lead the race with 494 runs.

Heading into the RR vs GT match, one name to track is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, as attention will also be on the Gujarat Titans openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. Sooryavanshi sits on 404 runs in the fifth spot, while Sudharsan is at No. 7 with 385 runs and Gill is slightly lower at No. 10 on 378 runs.

Orange Cap leaderboard

Kartik Tyagi has been delivering for KKR with regular wickets across this season. In his most recent four matches, he has claimed eight wickets, including the two he took on Friday, lifting his overall tally to 13. While that still leaves him behind the leaders, his momentum is unmistakably heading upward.

The top five remains exactly the same as before: Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Anshul Kamboj occupy the first two places with 17 wickets each, separated only by economy rate. Behind them, Prince Yadav, Kagiso Rabada and Eshan Malinga are all tied on 16 wickets.

Saturday’s action could, however, change things quickly—especially with Rabada set to feature. He has taken 12 wickets across his last six outings, and if he maintains that level of impact, the Purple Cap conversation could turn in his favour come Saturday night, even without needing a huge haul.

That said, the race could also swing if Jofra Archer turns it on. Archer currently has 15 wickets and is just behind the top group, meaning two wickets could be enough to move him into striking distance. With that in mind, the spotlight is on both Rabada and Archer tonight, and particularly on how they perform during the powerplay—early breakthroughs could end up shaping the final result.
