Rashid Khan’s Spell and Gill’s 84 Power GT to 77-Run Win in Jaipur

Rashid Khan delivered a classic, game-shaping spell while Shubman Gill starred with a commanding 84 as Gujarat Titans crushed Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs in a one-sided IPL 2026 encounter at Jaipur on Saturday. The win gave GT their fourth straight victory of the campaign and brought them level on 14 points with table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad, a result that significantly boosts their chances of reaching the playoffs. Put into bat first on a batting-friendly Sawai Mansingh Stadium strip, Gujarat made the most of the conditions, posting their highest team total of the season to finish on 229/4.

Gill set the tone from the start, steering the innings with an outstanding 44-ball knock featuring nine fours and three sixes. Although he briefly felt discomfort in his left foot during the course of his innings, the Gujarat skipper never let Rajasthan’s bowlers find any rhythm. He found a reliable attacking partner in Sai Sudharsan, who continued his impressive run of form with a fluent 55. Together, the pair put on a huge 118-run opening stand, taking complete control of the Powerplay and racing beyond the 100-mark inside nine overs.

Rajasthan’s bowling struggled to match the intensity, and Jofra Archer endured a particularly rough outing. Archer conceded 18 runs in his first over alone, including five wides, and he ended with 46 runs from just three overs. Sudharsan made the most of anything wide, repeatedly punishing bad lines, while Gill continued to find the gaps with clean timing and variety around the ground. Even when Yash Raj Punia finally broke the opening partnership by removing Sudharsan, Gujarat’s momentum never dipped.

In the later stages, Washington Sundar accelerated in the finishing phase, smashing an unbeaten 37 off 20 deliveries, while Rahul Tewatia added two sixes in the final over to push the total to 229/4. With 230 required, Rajasthan Royals went after the chase with aggression, powered early by teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old struck the very first ball of the innings for six and carried that fearless intent into a blistering 36 off only 16 balls, including three fours and three sixes.

At 62/2 after five overs, RR looked like they might pull off the chase. Dhruv Jurel also played a crucial counter-attacking knock, smashing 24 off 10 balls, with three sixes and a four, adding urgency to their run-rate. But the game shifted sharply once Rashid Khan came on. The Afghan leg-spinner bowled with tight control and sharp variation between the eighth and 14th overs, making full use of whatever turn the surface offered.

Rashid struck first by removing Jurel with a teasing delivery, and just three balls later he dismissed Donovan Ferreira. He then delivered the knockout blow by trapping Ravindra Jadeja lbw, completing a devastating four-wicket haul. From that point, Rajasthan’s chase unraveled quickly, and Rashid’s figures of 4/33—featuring three bowled dismissals—proved decisive.

Earlier in the chase, Mohammed Siraj had ended Sooryavanshi’s explosive spell with a sharp short ball, while Kagiso Rabada removed stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal with a fiery 152kph bouncer. Jason Holder then finished the job with superb bowling figures of 3/12, as Rajasthan were dismissed for 152 in only 16.3 overs. Gujarat Titans thus secured one of their most emphatic victories of the season.
