Raj Bawa produced a breathtaking diving catch to send back Suryansh Shedge during the IPL 2026 encounter between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians on Thursday. The dismissal arrived in the 14th over, when Shardul Thakur delivered a full length ball on the pads. Shedge attempted a flick towards short midwicket, but the shot went up in the air. Bawa reacted quickly to his left and completed the catch in mid-dive, ending Shedge’s innings with him scoring 8 off 5 deliveries.
The wicket was one of the turning points in a collapse that was sparked by Shardul Thakur after Punjab Kings had started brightly. After being asked to bat first following four consecutive losses, PBKS piled up 200 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs.
Prabhsimran Singh was the driving force with a knock of 57, while Priyansh Arya contributed 27. The top order stitched together a productive 50-run opening partnership, which was put together from 33 balls.
Mumbai Indians had earlier let Prabhsimran survive a chance, and he made them pay by helping Punjab race to 55 for 1 during the powerplay. He then added another 57 runs alongside Cooper Connolly, guiding PBKS past the 100-mark in the 12th over.
Deepak Chahar provided Mumbai’s first breakthrough in the fifth over, dismissing Priyansh Arya. However, the momentum swung decisively when Shardul Thakur struck twice in the space of three balls. After conceding 15 runs in his initial over, he removed Prabhsimran and then accounted for Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer, who fell for 4.
Raj Bawa continued the pressure by bowling Connolly with a cross-seam delivery. Soon after, he took a catch to dismiss Shedge, this time coming off Shardul’s bowling, as the collapse gathered pace.
Even with wickets falling, Punjab Kings finished strongly, adding 53 runs in the final three overs. Azmatullah Omarzai played a quick cameo of 38 off 17 balls, striking two sixes and a four, while Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett also contributed valuable late hitting.
Vinod and Bartlett made the most of Corbin Bosch’s last over, scoring 22 runs in total. Two missed chances near the boundary helped Punjab squeeze extra value, and it enabled PBKS to reach the 200-run mark for the eighth time in the season.
