Akeal Hosein Injury Scare During CSK vs GT Clash Raises Big Worries

Chennai Super Kings overseas player Akeal Hosein was forced to deal with a serious-looking moment during the IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, after an awkward collision in the field triggered an immediate medical response.

Hosein’s scare in GT’s innings

  1. During the sixth over of Gujarat Titans’ innings, Shubman Gill struck the ball through the off-side.
  2. Hosein moved in to complete the catch, attempting to run towards the right.
  3. In the attempt to reach the ball, he ended up hitting his right cheek on the ground, resulting in a brief stoppage.
  4. Team physios rushed to the field and conducted a mandatory concussion check.
  5. Although Hosein appeared to be in some discomfort, he managed to resume play soon after the assessment.

The incident, however, quickly brought fresh attention to player safety after earlier concerns involving Delhi Capitals pacer Lungi Ngidi in the same season.

Ngidi’s head injury: update after DC vs PBKS

Ngidi had picked up a head injury during Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. After the situation was handled on the ground, he provided a reassurance to supporters on Sunday.

  1. In the third over of Punjab Kings’ chase, Ngidi went down when he tried to take a catch near mid-off.
  2. He fell backwards and struck his head heavily on the turf.
  3. Ngidi clutched his head and remained on the ground as medical staff rushed in.
  4. Play was paused for 15 minutes before Ngidi was taken off the field on a stretcher and moved to an ambulance.
  5. A coordinated effort involving the Delhi Traffic Police helped create a green corridor for the player’s transfer to BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital near Rajendra Nagar Metro Station, completing the journey in 11 minutes.
  6. With the injury later assessed as not severe, Ngidi was discharged and returned to the team’s hotel, showing encouraging signs.

Ngidi later posted a short message on Instagram to calm fears, writing: “Thank you for the messages, all good,” while expressing gratitude to fans for their support following the scare.

After Ngidi’s discharge, Delhi Capitals still had to adjust their bowling attack. Vipraj Nigam replaced him, but the change proved difficult to manage as Delhi failed to defend 264 runs and lost the match by five wickets.

Ngidi has been one of DC’s key contributors this season, taking seven wickets in seven appearances. His tournament numbers include a bowling average of 29.42, an economy rate of 8.70, and best figures of 3/27.
