Aminul Islam: I’ll be last to leave as BCB reels from resignations

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam said on Saturday that he intends to be the final person to leave the boardroom, following the resignation of multiple directors. His statement arrived after yet another wave of departures shook the BCB, with the board now facing mounting uncertainty over how long the current leadership can stay in place. With the possibility of the administration being dissolved within the coming week, it has also been reported that some other directors may be considering stepping down as well.

Four BCB directors—Saniyan Taneem, Mehrab Alam, Faiazur Rahman and Manjurul Alam—submitted their resignations on Saturday, April 4, after a board meeting. Their exit followed closely on the heels of earlier resignations by Yasir Mohammed and Faysal Ashique, which had already sparked fresh discussion about unrest within the boardroom. With these back-to-back departures, the total number of resignations from the current BCB board has now reached six.

Earlier in the sequence, Amzad Hussain had resigned citing personal reasons, after being removed from his role as chairman of the Media Committee. Around the same time, Ishtiaque Sadeeque, who led the Game Development Committee, also stepped down on similar grounds. Bulbul, meanwhile, did not attend the press conference after the board meeting, a decision he reportedly took to avoid public embarrassment over allegations tied to his performance, as well as his involvement in a controversial board election now under scrutiny by an investigation committee formed under the National Sports Council.

Late on Saturday, Bulbul conveyed his intention through a conversation with a private television channel, saying he would remain until the end. “I will be there holding a chair as I will be the last person to go till the last day Inshallah,” he was quoted as saying on a programme aired on Jamuna TV. He added that he believed the directors’ group was committed and capable of serving Bangladesh cricket, stating: “Our team (board of directors) are good and they are dedicated and honest so I want to work with this team and serve Bangladesh cricket.”

Bulbul further claimed that the board had not been able to operate with full independence, alleging interference that continued to disrupt decision-making. “We could not work with freedom for one day as an external force was always disturbing us and still doing that. You should support us and you know who I am meaning because without support we cannot move forward. Our cricket is stagnant and I have said a lot of times that an external force is disturbing us and because of that the pace of our cricket has slowed down,” he said.
