Bangladesh NSC Sets Up Ad Hoc Panel After Aminul Islam Board Dissolved

Bangladesh’s National Sports Council (NSC) has moved to reshape cricket governance after announcing on Tuesday, April 7, that it will appoint an 11-member ad hoc committee to manage the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The decision comes after the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board was dissolved, with the NSC citing major irregularities uncovered in the most recent board election.

NSC decision to dissolve current board

In its statement on April 7, the NSC confirmed that the existing Bangladesh Cricket Board leadership headed by Aminul Islam Bulbul will no longer continue. The council’s action is tied to what it described as large-scale irregularities detected during the last election process.

Ad hoc committee and timeline for elections

The NSC said it will form an 11-member ad hoc committee to run the board operations. The NSC official also indicated that elections are expected to be held within the next 90 days.

  • The NSC plans to set up an 11-person ad hoc committee to run the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
  • The committee is expected to conduct elections within the next 90 days.
  • The NSC said the investigation committee identified “huge scale irregularities” in the previous election.

Consultations with the ICC

Alongside the governance shake-up, the NSC official stated that discussions are ongoing with the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the probe committee’s findings. The council’s coordination with the ICC is linked to the recommendations made to strengthen procedures and support free and fair elections.

  • The NSC said it has shared the probe findings with the ICC.
  • It also said the NSC has informed the ICC about forming the 11-member ad hoc committee.
  • The NSC is waiting for a response from the ICC.

Earlier remarks by Youth and Sports minister

State minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque had previously indicated that the next steps would be decided after consultations with the ICC regarding the probe committee’s report.

“We have informed about the findings and forming 11-member ad hoc committee to the ICC and waiting for their reply,” the NSC official said on Tuesday.
