David Miller found it hard to shake off the sting of a last-ball miss, even with immediate comfort flowing his way at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Captain Axar Patel, along with a few familiar faces from his earlier stint with Gujarat Titans, offered support, but the decision in the final over continued to play on his mind. Fresh video shared by the franchise on Thursday showed Miller seated alone in the Delhi Capitals dressing room, visibly caught in a loop of “what if” thoughts, as most of the post-match talk had quickly narrowed down to that one decisive moment.
In the clip, Miller appears emotional and unsettled, close to tears as he processes what went wrong. Head coach Hemang Badani soon stepped in, wrapping him in a hug and patting him on the back in an effort to steady him. The post carried a short caption: “Backing our Tiger, always.”
What happened in the last two balls?
Miller had been the driving force in Delhi’s chase, having already struck three sixes and two other boundaries. His biggest hit came in the closing stages, when he launched a 106-metre six during the final over of the 211 chase, giving Delhi momentum and hope of finishing the job.
- With a single available on the penultimate delivery, Delhi required just two runs off the final two balls, and Miller chose to go for the finish—sending Kuldeep Yadav back even though the batter was already well down the pitch.
- On the last ball, Prasidh Krishna used a slower bouncer that moved away outside off, deceiving Miller as he failed to make contact.
- Kuldeep sprinted again toward Jos Buttler, with the ball rolling in the direction of the wicketkeeper.
- This time, Miller had to respond, but Buttler’s underarm throw beat Kuldeep by inches, denying the run and sealing a one-run defeat for Delhi.
The loss was Delhi Capitals’ first setback in their first three matches of the season, and it left them placed fourth in the points table.
Earlier: Buttler’s surge and Rahul’s anchor
Before the late drama, Jos Buttler had set the tone for Gujarat Titans with a 52 off 27 balls, striking five sixes in the process. Gujarat went on to post 210 for 4.
In response, KL Rahul produced the foundation for the chase with a composed 92, handing Miller the platform to launch his late assault. Miller’s final charge looked to be taking Delhi over the line until the final-over twist, where the last two balls swung the result the other way.
