Goenka lauds Akash Singh’s electric CSK spell as Lucknow dominate early

Akash Singh announced himself in his first IPL appearance of the season with a ruthless powerplay spell against Chennai Super Kings, striking early and then backing it up with more key breakthroughs as Lucknow dominated the early phase. The left-arm pacer removed two of CSK’s most dangerous top-order hitters in quick succession, then sealed the pressure with the dismissal of Urvil Patel, finishing an outing that underlined his pace, movement and willingness to attack.

Akash Singh’s powerplay impact

From the opening overs, Akash made it hard for CSK to settle. He struck promptly by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson, two star openers whose wickets can swing the momentum of any T20 contest. With CSK already under pressure, Akash stayed aggressive and added Urvil Patel’s wicket later on to complete a standout spell in the first innings.

  • Removed CSK’s star openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson early, immediately tightening the contest in the powerplay.
  • Finished with the crucial wicket of Urvil Patel, capping an impressive run with the ball.
  • Used sharp pace, movement and an attacking mindset to stamp authority over the early overs.

Viral wicket celebration with a handwritten note

Akash’s impact didn’t stop at the wickets. Each time he struck, he celebrated by pulling out a note that carried a message to fans and players alike. The wording on the card read: “#Akki on fire – Akash knows how to take wickets in T20 game.”

The gesture quickly spread across social media, turning the youngster’s celebration into a talking point during the match and beyond. His presence in the spotlight grew even further after the moment went viral among supporters.

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s message

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka also praised Akash’s performance and referenced the viral note celebration. Goenka highlighted the value of three crucial wickets against Chennai Super Kings and encouraged the pacer to keep building momentum.

Goenka’s post read: “Akash, three crucial wickets tonight. Well done. The note says it all, you showed exactly how to take those wickets in a T20 game. Keep at it, Akki. Proud of you. @LucknowIPL,”

How Akash kept CSK under pressure

Akash maintained tight control across the spell, delivering four consecutive overs with discipline and clear intent. He consistently attacked a hard length, restricting CSK’s top order from getting comfortable and forcing batters into choices that came with risk—especially during the powerplay.

That pressure paid off at the moment of Sanju Samson’s dismissal. Samson tried to launch an aggressive pull shot toward a rising delivery, but the ball came from an awkward spot with too little room. The result was a mistimed attempt that didn’t carry cleanly and instead found Mukul Choudhary near the square-leg boundary, giving Akash another important breakthrough.

Akash Singh explains his “big wicket” mindset

After the first innings, Akash described the fearless approach that shapes his IPL bowling. Rather than treating matches like straightforward competition, he insisted his focus is on dominating batters—mentally as much as technically. He also stressed that the league demands a proactive mindset because batting standards continue to rise.

  • He believes the mindset should be about dominating batters, not merely “competing” in IPL cricket.
  • He emphasised that staying one step ahead requires both skill and mental control.
  • He said his approach is to target big wickets and that the batter’s identity matters less than the plan.

Akash further explained that he tries to picture his bowling as if it were single-wicket cricket, where execution becomes the deciding factor and the ball goes where he intends. He added that getting big players out brings a unique kind of satisfaction and noted that his IPL wicket record reflects his mindset, with many of his wickets coming from established names.

In his words to broadcasters, “My mindset is always about getting big wickets because when you come to the IPL, you shouldn’t just come to play – you should come to dominate. That mindset is very important. If you don’t think like that, then in a league like this where batting is getting stronger every single day, you will always stay behind. You need to stay one step ahead skill-wise, but at the same time the mental side matters a lot to me. If you don’t dominate mentally in this game, you can’t move forward consistently. That’s why my approach is always to dominate and honestly the batter’s name doesn’t matter too much to me. I try to think like I’m bowling in single-wicket cricket where execution matters the most. In those situations, your body flows naturally and the ball goes exactly where you want it to. So I focus on execution and going after big wickets. Obviously getting big batters out gives a different kind of happiness and if you look at my IPL record, most of my wickets are big players because that’s always been my mindset.”
