Virat Kohli has pointed to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s outstanding IPL 2026 run as evidence that reliability, self-belief, and technical precision can still decide matches in modern T20 cricket. Kohli’s view is that Bhuvneshwar’s impact hasn’t come from gimmicks or showy swing, but from his ability to land a challenging length again and again—and to force batters into uncomfortable decisions. “What is Bhuvi doing? He is not bowling banana inswingers, banana outswingers. He is bowling at a length that tells the guys that I am good enough to hit the length every time. It is the most difficult length to hit, and I am just gonna keep hitting those lengths. Are you good enough to take me on or not?” Kohli said during an RCB podcast.
Now aged 36, Bhuvneshwar has appeared to reverse time with a sensational season. With 22 wickets already, he is currently leading the wicket-taking standings and has emerged as one of the key reasons behind Bengaluru’s climb to the summit of the IPL 2026 points table.
Kohli further argued that the veteran pacer’s success is rooted in repeatable processes—consistent execution and steady confidence—rather than dramatic changes in style. In Kohli’s assessment, Bhuvneshwar has translated the discipline of bowling demanding Test-match lengths into the shorter format, a skill that continues to unsettle even the most attacking batters.
“It’s simple stuff. It’s repetition, it’s execution, uncomplicated consistency backed with tremendous belief. That’s all he is doing. Look at the results. He has six three-wicket hauls in 11 matches. That’s crazy,” Kohli added.
The batting great also highlighted how a strong technical base can help players navigate difficult stretches in their careers. Kohli said that when fundamentals are solid, athletes can always find a route to adjust, respond, and bounce back—and Bhuvneshwar’s current form is, in his view, a standout example of that principle.
“When you have technical ability in place, you can always adjust, and especially when you are going through a tough phase, it is easier for the guys who have a technical foundation to find a way to score or find a way to get wickets,” Kohli said.
Bhuvneshwar’s red-hot spell has been a major factor in Bengaluru’s strong IPL 2026 campaign. The franchise is currently at the top of the points table with 16 points from 12 matches, and it is close to confirming a place in the playoffs.
