Hardik Pandya Sends Ball Toward Ravi Shastri Stand, Ex-Coach Reacts Live

Ravi Shastri, the former India head coach and a familiar voice in cricket broadcasts, sparked a loud reaction on commentary when Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya struck a boundary toward the stand that bears his name during the IPL 2026 encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Shastri, who is a 1983 World Cup winner, had been honoured recently through the opening of the “Ravi Shastri Stand” at the same venue, and supporters were clearly keen to see whether any batter would send the ball there. When Pandya finally did, the moment turned into a memorable broadcast highlight.

Chasing a demanding target of 241, Hardik launched a forceful straight drive off pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, sending the ball skimming to the ropes and landing near the Ravi Shastri Stand. As soon as the shot reached its destination, Shastri leaned into the excitement, reacting in a dramatic fashion.

Shastri said, “Into the fence like a tracer bullet.” He then added, “And it came at the right area. It was targeting the Ravi Shastri Stand. We might see a few now. If the Mumbai Indians want to win, they have to punch a few there. Aim higher.”

His co-commentator, Faf du Plessis, responded with a playful jab, quipping, “He’s charging now, really. Ravi is on. Everyone clear up.”

On the field, Bengaluru’s bowlers managed to keep Mumbai’s chase under pressure, restricting the five-time champions to 222 for 5 while they chased 241. The innings featured quickfire contributions, including a blazing knock from Sherfane Rutherford, who finished unbeaten on 71 off 31 deliveries. Before that, Mumbai’s chase also revolved around half-centuries from Phil Salt, Virat Kohli and captain Rajat Patidar as Bengaluru posted their record-setting total.

After the match, Hardik reflected on Mumbai’s campaign and the chase, stating, “I think we conceded way too many (runs) as well. I think that was always going to be catch-up. I think in the last couple of games, as a bowling unit or even as a batting unit, we’ve been catching up in the game rather than leading the game.” It was Mumbai’s third defeat of the season, and the result pushed them down to eighth place on the points table.

Bengaluru, meanwhile, held onto momentum by staying in the top half of the standings, maintaining their third position after collecting three wins from their first four matches.
