Kohli’s angry clash with Head sparks no-handshake moment after RCB vs SRH

Virat Kohli was once again in the middle of the spotlight during a fiery Friday night encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. During RCB’s chase of 256, Kohli appeared visibly on edge—his body language swinging between intensity and frustration as the innings swung in the balance. What stood out even more was what happened after the game, when Kohli appeared to bypass a customary handshake with Travis Head during the post-match courtesies.

As the RCB players made their way out to congratulate the opposition, Head offered his hand to Kohli, but the RCB batter walked by without acknowledging the Australian opener. He then continued greeting other SRH players, and the awkward moment quickly drew attention on social media. The incident followed an already charged atmosphere on the field earlier in the contest.

Tensions had begun to surface while Venkatesh Iyer was pushing the SRH bowlers, particularly during an aggressive spell against Shivang Kumar. A video from the third over captured Kohli turning toward Head between deliveries and having an on-field exchange, adding another layer to the intensity of the night.

Kohli gestured toward Head and appeared to invite him to bowl, while also teasing him with an Impact Player-style signal. Head, who has often been deployed as an Impact Player this season rather than featuring consistently in the field, stayed involved on the night after SRH made a tactical change by replacing Salil Arora with Harshal Patel.

Despite the drama, Kohli’s stay at the crease was short-lived. He was dismissed for 15 in the final over of the powerplay by Sakib Hussain. Kohli went for a big hit down the ground but was undone by a slower ball, and the contact lacked the intended timing. The mistimed shot flew straight to Smaran Ravichandran inside the circle, who took a comfortable catch and ended Kohli’s brief innings.

Head then got a crucial chance with the ball as well, bowling the penultimate over when SRH were close to sealing the result. In that over, he removed Rajat Patidar, turning the pressure further in SRH’s favour.

RCB finish on top despite the loss

RCB ultimately fell short of the target and collapsed under the weight of the chase, losing the match by 55 runs. Even so, they still finished the league phase at the top of the standings due to a stronger net run rate than both SRH and Gujarat Titans. The leading trio all ended the league stage with 18 points each, with net run rate deciding the final order. With that outcome, RCB and GT claimed the first two spots heading into the playoffs, while SRH settled for third place.

SRH’s big total sets the tone

Earlier, SRH had set the match up with a dominant batting performance at home, posting 255 for 4 against RCB. Abhishek Sharma spearheaded the innings with a blistering 56 off 22 balls, reaching a rapid half-century in just 20 deliveries and taking the attack to Bhuvneshwar Kumar from early on. Ishan Kishan followed with a composed yet aggressive knock of 79 off 44, combining clean timing with flair to keep the scoreboard accelerating. Heinrich Klaasen then added late momentum, smashing 51 off 24 balls and ensuring SRH maintained their ultra-aggressive batting rhythm throughout the innings.
