Kohli’s thumbs-up to Sarfaraz after dismissal sparks viral RCB moment

A small gesture from Virat Kohli during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s resounding victory over Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy quickly became a talking point. As Sarfaraz Khan walked back after a brisk innings, Kohli called out to him despite the roar of the crowd. When Sarfaraz looked over, Kohli applauded and followed it with a thumbs-up, a clear sign of respect for the spell of batting that injected a short burst of hope into CSK’s chase.

Sarfaraz had arrived when Chennai were in serious trouble. Chasing 251, CSK slipped to 30 for 3 within the opening three overs, leaving them staring at an early collapse. From that point, Sarfaraz shifted gears with purpose—finding boundaries with regularity and keeping the scoring rate moving—before accelerating to a fifty off just 25 deliveries. His knock helped CSK reach 77 at the end of the powerplay, giving the chase a brief lifeline.

That momentum, however, was not sustained. Sarfaraz was dismissed on the very first ball after the powerplay as his stay at the crease came to an end at a critical time. Jitesh Sharma effected the stumping, removing Sarfaraz off Krunal Pandya’s delivery, cutting short a stand that CSK desperately needed to extend.

Earlier, Bengaluru had built their platform with a dominant batting performance. Kohli and Phil Salt provided a steady foundation before Devdutt Padikkal took control, striking a fluent half-century to keep the tempo high. As the innings approached the end, RCB’s batting turned explosive, with captain Rajat Patidar and Tim David launching a relentless assault. Together, they added 99 runs from just 35 balls, driving Bengaluru to 250 for 3.

In reply, CSK never managed to fully recover after the early blows from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jacob Duffy. While Prashant Veer and Jamie Overton helped CSK push past the 200 mark, the chase remained out of reach. Chennai were bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs, handing them their third consecutive loss of the season.

Bengaluru ultimately won by 43 runs in a convincing fashion, but the standout moment of the night was Kohli’s acknowledgement of Sarfaraz—an understated show of appreciation amid the intensity of a high-stakes IPL contest.
