Mumbai Indians have added Mahipal Lomror and Ruchit Ahir to their squad as replacements for Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa, both ruled out through injury. The move arrives only a day before MI’s last league match of the season, a home clash against Rajasthan Royals.
Injuries and the replacement plan
- Quinton de Kock has been sidelined with a tendon injury in his left wrist ahead of Mumbai Indians’ fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
- Raj Angad Bawa suffered a ligament tear in his right thumb during Mumbai’s match against Punjab Kings.
- To fill the gaps, MI brought in batting all-rounder Mahipal Lomror and uncapped IPL option Ruchit Ahir.
Mahipal Lomror joins MI
Mahipal Lomror, a batting all-rounder from Rajasthan, comes into the side with prior IPL exposure. His IPL career spans the 2018 season through to his most recent appearance in 2024, during which he played 40 matches across two franchises—Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In IPL cricket, Lomror has accumulated 527 runs and has taken one wicket from the 15 overs he has bowled. MI have signed him for INR 50 lakh.
Ruchit Ahir’s maiden IPL opportunity
Ruchit Ahir, meanwhile, will be playing his first IPL campaign. The 25-year-old has represented Saurashtra in domestic cricket, featuring in 16 List A matches and 12 T20 games.
In those T20 and List A outings for Saurashtra, Ahir has scored 333 runs in 12 innings, striking at 169.03. He joins Mumbai Indians for INR 30 lakh.
MI’s season context
These replacements have been announced just before Mumbai Indians’ final outing of the season against Rajasthan Royals at home. The five-time champions have had a difficult campaign so far, managing only 4 wins from 13 matches, and are set to end the league stage among the bottom two teams.
