Pat Cummins Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over Rate in SRH vs GT IPL 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins has been handed a fine of Rs 12 lakh for a slow over rate during SRH’s IPL 2026 match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The league office confirmed the sanction in an official note after Hyderabad suffered a heavy 82-run loss on Tuesday night.

The IPL’s statement clarified that Cummins was penalised under Article 2.22 of the tournament’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate requirements. It also highlighted that this was the first over-rate breach by his team during the season, which is why the punishment was set at INR 12 lakhs.

The timing of the fine only added to a frustrating night for Hyderabad, as Gujarat Titans dominated from start to finish in a lopsided contest. GT’s all-round display propelled them to the summit of the IPL 2026 points table. After being sent in, Gujarat compiled 168/5, with Sai Sudharsan playing a steady knock of 61. Washington Sundar then contributed a vital half-century to help set a challenging total.

Chasing 169, SRH’s batting unit crumbled under the pressure of the chase and were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs. Jason Holder and Kagiso Rabada were the key figures with the ball, taking three wickets apiece and dismantling the Hyderabad top and middle order in quick succession.

With this sanction, Cummins joins a list of several IPL 2026 captains who have already been penalised for slow over-rate offences. The penalties so far are:
