Rohit Sharma Hamstring Update: MI’s Wankhede Clash vs SRH Tonight

Rohit Sharma’s fitness is the main storyline as Mumbai Indians prepare for a must-win meeting with Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. The veteran opener is still not completely cleared after a hamstring injury, leaving his role at the Wankhede Stadium uncertain for the contest.

Rohit has been sidelined since April 12 and continues to be listed as doubtful. Although there has been positive movement—he has been batting for extended spells in the nets—Mumbai Indians are expected to hold back from any gamble unless he is judged fully match-ready.

His absence has been keenly felt in a season for Mumbai that has swung between promising spells and sudden reversals. With seven matches remaining and 14 points still available, the franchise technically controls its own destiny at the halfway point. Yet the quality of their results so far leaves very little room for another slip-up.

So far, Mumbai’s campaign has leaned more toward inconsistency than momentum. The statistics underline the unevenness: they have managed 1,173 runs in total, the lowest tally among all teams. Their Powerplay output—366 runs—has also been the poorest in the league. Without Rohit at the top to bring stability and provide early momentum, the batting group has struggled to establish the right tempo from the first overs.

The problems are not confined to one part of the batting order. Tilak Varma, Mumbai’s leading run-scorer, is still not among the top tier of the tournament’s current leading batters. Suryakumar Yadav, who was dominant in the previous season, has found it difficult to regain his rhythm, while Hardik Pandya and Sherfane Rutherford have both gone through difficult phases with the bat.

Facing them is a Sunrisers Hyderabad side that has set the standard with the bat during this IPL. Their overall numbers stand noticeably higher across key metrics, including total runs, batting averages, and six-hitting. Several SRH players are also in strong form, giving the top order and middle overs a consistent look.

Hyderabad’s improvements extend to their bowling as well. Pat Cummins is back to spearhead the attack, and younger pacers have stepped up, transforming what was once a weaker area into a more dependable weapon for the team.

Wankhede is expected to deliver yet another high-scoring encounter, with the average first-innings total in recent matches trending above 200. Still, additional pressure could come from Mumbai’s uneven record at home this season, including a collapse in their most recent outing against CSK.

At present, Rohit remains a doubtful starter, and his return would undoubtedly be a boost. However, unless he is fully fit, Mumbai Indians may again have to manage a high-pressure chase or chase-the-game scenario without one of their most experienced and influential players.
