Mumbai Indians have confirmed that left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner will miss the rest of IPL 2026 after aggravating a right shoulder injury. The issue first surfaced when Santner felt soreness in his non-bowling shoulder while fielding during the match against Delhi Capitals on April 4. He then chose to miss the following fixture against RR on April 7, before returning to action for the game against RCB on April 12. Santner also played against GT on April 20, but later suffered another setback to the same shoulder while fielding against CSK on April 23. In the matches he managed to play this season, Santner took five wickets across four outings.
With Santner sidelined, Mumbai have brought in Keshav Maharaj as his replacement for the remainder of the campaign. Maharaj is also an experienced left-arm spinner and has appeared in just two IPL matches before—both for RR in 2024—yet he offers variety and know-how to MI’s bowling unit. Across T20 cricket, Maharaj has 191 wickets from 218 matches, including 39 wickets collected during four seasons of SA20. Santner’s most recent appearance came against CSK on April 23, and since then MI have had an extended break to regroup following a difficult beginning to the tournament, which has left them placed ninth in the standings. Their next assignment is a home clash against SRH on April 29.
