MI Suffer Major Loss as Quinton de Kock, Raj Angad Bawa Ruled Out of IPL 2026

Mumbai Indians have been hit by a major injury double blow ahead of the closing stretch of IPL 2026, with Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa ruled out for the rest of the season. The five-time champions, who have already fallen out of playoff contention, said both players are currently recovering at home following separate injuries picked up during the tournament.

Injuries and impact on Mumbai’s season

  1. Quinton de Kock has been ruled out after suffering a tendon issue in his left wrist ahead of Mumbai’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

  2. The wicketkeeper-batter’s last appearance for MI came on April 23, after which his season ended prematurely.

  3. Across IPL 2026, de Kock contributed 132 runs from three matches, including an unbeaten 112 against Punjab Kings.

  4. Raj Angad Bawa has also been sidelined, with the Chandigarh all-rounder sustaining a ligament tear in his right thumb during Mumbai’s previous fixture versus Punjab Kings.

  5. The 23-year-old played three matches in IPL 2026, having also featured in three games during IPL 2025.

Both Mumbai Indians confirmed that replacements for de Kock and Bawa will be announced later, in line with IPL regulations. For a squad already struggling for momentum, the losses further underline how difficult this campaign has been for the franchise.

Where MI stand and what remains

IPL 2026 has proved disappointing for Mumbai Indians, who currently occupy ninth place in the points table. They have won only four of their 12 matches and carry a net run rate of -0.504. Despite being unable to reach the playoffs, MI still have two matches left to play: against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on May 20, and against Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai on May 24.

While Mumbai’s qualification hopes are over, their remaining fixtures could still matter in the wider chase for the top four, with both KKR and RR still positioned in the running.
